A Weekend in Korea

A Weekend in Korea

This post is very very late but at the beginning of december my boyfriend and I went to Korea for a weekend. I have always wanted to go to Korea, actually more then I wanted to go to Japan so I’m really surprised it has taken me this long to go. This was a dream of mine so having it come true even for a short amount of time was incredible. I arrived first on friday night and went to myeong dong. Our airbnb was a five minute walk from there. I just walked around got facemasks and tried some street food.

The next morning I woke up super early and kei arrived we went to get face masks like these to wear in the cold because Korean winters are brutal! I have never been so cold before and it was only the beginning of december.

I also love the fact that the pink panther is so popular in Korea. I wish I had got one of the perfumes because they were only $6 and smelled pretty good.

We knew we didn’t have a lot of time in Seoul so Kei let me decide and plan the entire trip. I knew I wanted to spend my time in myeongdong and the bukcheon hanok village. We walked from our airbnb over to the insadong area and had lunch. I had an amazing bibibap and kei had a seundubu (I probably spelled that wrong)

Then we walked over here and got here for sunset. I had always dreamed of coming here so getting to go with kei and take some incredible pictures was just amazing! I was so so happy.

We went home and warmed up before going to get Korean BBQ. We eat korean food a lot in tokyo and really enjoy it so we were really excited to have it in Seoul. We just went to some random place that we don’t recommend so I would just find somewhere that feels right for you.

We walked around myeongdong at night and did some shopping. We went to the style nanda pink hotel, which I’ve always wanted to go to, and the innis free cafe store. We also had hotteok which are pancakes filled with something, these were honey and cinnamon and they were incredible!

The next day was our final morning. We went to this really cute cafe, which I have another blog post about so stay tuned, and then went to explore one more time. We had BBQ again and got some souvenirs for our friends.

We also found this river walkway which I had been trying to google and failing at. It had these heart lanterns hanging over it and a light display at night. I was really happy we stumbled across it. I still don’t know what it is called but it is in myeongdong.

It was super cold outside which I think was really good for us because it meant no one was there. It was also like 8:30 in the morning so that might help too. Be prepared Seoul is a night city not a morning one so not much is open before 10.

We flew out of incheon airport in the evening, which is the most insane airport I’ve ever been too. They had a live band with christmas music, lots of shopping, these crazy lights and trees, and a cultural center. Not a lot of food though on the inside of security so make sure you eat outside before going in. There is a lot of food in the basement before going through security so definitely do that instead.

This overall was an amazing trip even though it was short. I know for sure I will be back to Seoul again to see more and eat a lot more. I feel like I just dipped my toe in but I’m so glad I did.
