Ginzan Onsen: A Winter Fairy World
So I recently went to Ginzan Onsen while I was away in Sendai and I have to say this was truly magical. being here felt like I was in a winter fairy world. If you ever come to Japan I really recommend coming up north to Sendai.
As you can see in the photos there is ice and snow everywhere! Make sure you wear shoes for winter when you go because a lot of people went in sneakers and were falling. We went up into the mountains to get here and it is really difficult to get there. We drove there and the first time we went we have to turn around and go on another day. So if you want to go I actually think it would be best to just go stay for a night because most onsens have busses that pick you up and bring you there. I think I would love to go and stay there for two days because it is beautiful.
This place was stunning both during the day and at night! My boyfriend told me that this place was the inspiration for some Studio Ghibli movies and I can totally understand why. It is incredibly cold up here but it is really beautiful and worth it.
There is natural hot water flowing through this area and it is really really hot. They have a free foot bath you can try and I did, I did not get my feet completely in the water for more then two seconds. It is incredibly hot. You can put your hand in these faucets that are around as well. And to melt the ice, i thought this was so clever, they have tubes with the natural water coming out to melt the paths.
