Tips For When You Are Sick in Tokyo

Tips For When You Are Sick in Tokyo

No one likes being sick but especially in a foreign country where you don’t speak the language, can’t read anything, and the medicine is different. If you’re planning to move to Japan and work here one thing important to learn about is being sick. Most people in Japan who work for a company do not take the day off when they’re sick. Most people just power through.

If you read my last post on monday you’ll know I recently was super super sick and it made me realize I was so lucky to have my boyfriend to help me. My number one advice when moving to Japan is to bring your own medics with you but still I thought having advice about some Japanese products would help.

The first thing I would do is go to the closest convenient store and go to the hot drinks section. There is always a warmed section that has hot coffee or tea, I get this hot lemon honey tea which makes my throat better.

If you are suffering from a head ache or a fever these things are amazing! You put them in the fridge and once they get cold you peal off a seal (But save it!!) and you can stick it to your head. They’re reusable so you can put the plastic on and put it in the fridge when its warm.

I’m not sure what these are called but these are for when you have a sore throat. I know I didn’t mention a lot but everyone’s illness is different. Start by going to the local convenient store and then a larger pharmacy. If you are really unwell go to a doctor.

Here are some photos of a point and speak book I love, which is now discontinued, where it has useful word and phrases about being sick and body parts.
