Blogmas 6: Differences in Christmas in Japan
Christmas decorations and everything starts the 1st of November. The day after halloween people start to put up Christmas decorations in stores and bring out new seasonal items. And now on the 6th of December everything is on super sale now. Im glad I waited because I got a lot of really nice decorations for half off!
2. Christmas is a couples holiday more than a family holiday. It is mainly an excuse for people to start to date someone and go out on a special date with them. New Years is more of a family holiday. A lot of couples will go on special dates or give each other big presents.
3. On Christmas most people eat KFC chicken or go to an expensive restaurant. I don’t know how this was started or why but a lot of people want to have KFC on christmas. They also have a strawberry cake like the one below. A lot of the seasonal items then become strawberry flavored which seems strange to me because it isn’t the season for them.
4. Christmas lights are super expensive here. When I try and find any lights for our tree, I seem to find prices like this. And they don’t have a lot of lights that have plugs for the walls they are usually battery powered.
