Super Hot Summer Essentials and Tips I learned living in Japan in the humid summer

It’s going to be in the 90’s this weekend so I thought I would share my summer essentials and some tips I learned while living in Japan.

First let’s talk sunscreen! I’ve recently become very strict on myself about wearing sunscreen everyday even when it is cloudy to protect my skins longevity and to prevent my acne scars from getting worse. It’s hard to remember but I make sure to do it! I love this cerave sunscreen lotion. I think it blends into my skin well and sits nicely under makeup.

I also just finished this stick sunscreen from MyChelle but I don’t think I will be repurchasing this and I will try the cerave spf 50 sunscreen stick

Head Bands and Hats

I like to wear headbands like these in the summer to keep my hair out of my face. I personally have a lot of hair, its really long and thick, which as much as I complain about it I am so lucky! I also think these look really beachy and tropical

I also love to wear hats all year round but even more so in the summer to keep the sun off of my face and help control my hair a little

Flowy Dresses

In the summer I spend most of my time in long flow dresses or midi dresses. I’ve never liked wearing shorts, dresses, or skirts that are too short. I find that I’m always focused on making sure they don’t ride up and I can’t enjoy myself. When the days get really hot I like to put on a flowy long dress because it is something i don’t have to think about and I can just keep moving.

Here are some I’ve seen and loved!

Green Dress from Lulu’s

Red floral dress from Lulu’s

More expensive but I love the color of the free people dress

I need this yellow dress from Free people

Comfortable Sandals

A Handkerchief or Towel

IMG_3386.jpeg

I have been to Japan many times in the summer and have lived through the summer. Everyone there carries around a small handkerchief or towel year round to wipe their hands after washing them in public bathrooms, there are no paper towels and very rarely hand driers.

These also come in handy in the summer to wipe the sweat off of your face. A lot of salary men who wear suits will wet them with water from a water bottle and wipe their faces.

I’ve started carrying one year round and it has save me so many times. From spilling coffee on myself on the way to a big meeting or in the summers.

Deodorant and Wipes

As you can tell I love french lavender as a scent. I’m not afraid to say I sweat a lot and I can smell if I’m not careful. In the summer I carry around a deodorant in my purse to touch up. I recently was at whole foods though and saw these small wipes and wow! This has changed my world! I carry a few of these year round in my purse and they are amazing if you suddenly run to the train or bus and get to your destination sweaty and you’re worried about smelling.

All Things Bug Bites

I am a mosquito magnet they love me and I get so itchy and if I scratch them I get marks that last me months! I usually use cortisone cream but while I was living in Japan my fiancé introduced me to this blue icy stuff for bug bites! It is amazing! I put this on first then the cream and wow my bug bites are gone in like a week!

Fans

In Japan you’ll see paper fans in stores as souvenirs and I love to give them to people as gifts and I hope they’ll use them in the summer! I know my mom has started using them. I carry around my paper fan and a small battery one when I know I’ll be out all day and I’ll get hot. It’s so nice to have a small breeze.
