Winter 2022 Anime Reviews

Blue Period

This anime was absolutely stunning! The animation style was so beautiful and I loved the use of traditional art mediums in the show. I loved following yatora through his self discovery journey. Not to mention there is a non binary character in the show! Blue Period reminded me a lot of when i was growing up and trying to figure out what to do with my future. It’s very rare I watch a show and enjoy every character but I definitely did with this show. I loved this and have started the manga because of it. I’m very excited to see it has a movie in the works!

Demon Slayer: The Entertainment Arch

Demon slayer is a really good anime, I wouldn’t say it’s in my top favorites, but this season was definitely my favorite of all. I adore tengen so the fact he was so active this season was amazing. The animation style was also out of this world. I’ve never seen such vibrant colors during a fight scene. I’m sure they’ll win an award for it this year. The demons they’ve created were also really interesting and I loved seeing how the pushed the characters to grow.

Sasaki to Miyano

This is my favorite show this season! I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did, but it became such a comfort show to me. While watching it, it reminded me a lot of horimiya and the same energy I felt when I watched that. Now that the show is over I will definitely be reading and probably collecting the series, I know it’s not too far ahead of the manga. they’ve also announced a second project with it, either a second season or movie so I’m very excited to see what that’ll be.

I also love sasakis character design and how he reminds me a lot of a cat with his little fangs and catlike eyes. I think both of them are such lovable characters and so are all of the side characters. It was really nice to learn about them and their relationships as well and see how they’re all interconnected.

The anime is about sasaki and Miyano who go to an all boys school in Tokyo. Miyano is shy and quite, he really loves and reads a lot of BL, boys love, manga but says he’s not gay or interested in men… that is until sasaki comes into his life and questions his feelings. This was such a heartfelt sweet romance and left me on the edge of my seat craving more every week.

Tsurune

Personally I did not like this anime, but I did finish it. I wished it had been more about their coach Masaki, who was what drew me into the show. He was mysterious, shot arrows with an owl, and I found his story much more interesting. To me the main character and his best friend were annoying and there was a large amount of it I felt they dragged out for no reason. I was really sad I didn’t like this sports anime because I think the sport is beautiful and not a lot of people know about it.

Requiem of The Rose King

I was definitely not a fan of this anime, but I have heard that the manga is much much better. First off I wasn’t a huge fan of the art style, it was staticy and I found it hard to tell between different scene changes, but I thought I could get passed that for the story. However, this was such a complex and elaborate story that they rushed so much that so many details were dropped and left out.

The characters are incredibly deep and I’ve heard they go much more in-depth on them in the manga, but in the anime they were all very unlikeable with little to no redeeming qualities. The pacing also just seemed so incredibly rushed while watching it, and I could tell the animation company didn’t really have the budget for it to last as long as it should have, because of this it was extremely confusing at times. Because of this the ending was really confusing and weird to me, leaving me with a million questions, but I guess that’s how they get you to keep reading the manga right? This is also just a personal opinion but I found the relationship between Richard and Henry to be really uncomfortable and creepy to watch.

Requiem if the Rose King is about two feuding families trying to keep and take the throne of England during the Middle Ages. A series of civil wars become known as the War of Roses between the red and white roses, just to keep things simple. We follow the main character Richard who is the black sheep of the royal family and who’s mother has labeled a demon child. She constantly says Richard brings nothing but bad luck and death with them. You learn in the early episodes that she feels this way because Richard was born neither male nor female, but instead with characteristics of both genders. (Which to me felt like they could have explored and talked about more, but it was just very confusing)

just found out this is 24 episodes and will continue into the spring season…. So I will be dropping this show. I don’t think I can keep going

Case Study of Vanitas Part 2

I adored the first 12 episodes of the case study of vanitas and highly recommended it. It follows a steam punk fantasy world about vampires in 19th century Paris. It follows Noe who is looking for the fabled book of vanitas who is saved by the odd character who claims to be vanitas himself. If you like gojo and Dazai you will love vanitas who is a hybrid of the two.

I know a lot of people found this series to be confusing but I think if you take the time to focus on it while watching it, it isn’t too complicated and the show actually does a really good job explaining things. I appreciated the 12.5 episode they started off with as an in-depth recap since it had been a little while since I watched the show. Overall I loved this show

I started love of kill just because I was curious about what else was coming out this season and I’m loving it! It’s not over yet but here are some quick thoughts I have about it. I think it does a really good job balancing the intense moments in the show with little bits of humor. Most of the time I see writers try and include comedy in serious shows I find it awkward and unnecessary, but they did a great job so far.

I am obsessed with this new sports anime! I have a hard time not comparing sports anime’s to haikyuu, free and sk8 because they’re so good! But I’m really loving this show! I really enjoy that they’re all adults struggling to balance work and what they’re passionate about and the show actually talks about them at work and doing their sport. It’s a really great show and I adore all the characters so I can’t wait to see how it ends or if they’ll get a second season.
