Kdramas I’ve watched Recently
This post is very much delayed, mainly because my life in January exploded and I feel like I’m just now coming back up for air and back into myself so I figured this was already written I might as well post it!
Overall I thought Love in contract as a drama was ok, I definitely preferred the second male lead and his past connection to her over the main one. But I do usually have second male lead syndrome so that’s not surprising. I feel like I just didn’t ever bond with the male lead. I also wasn’t a big fan of the fact they used the same one past scene over and over. I wished they had filmed more scenes surrounding it to explain the plot line about Jamie and her past. By the end of the drama it felt like this should have been 12 instead of 16 episodes. The plot lost its pace after the 11th episode and it felt very rushed to find an answer.
The 8 episode kdrama The Fabulous, staring Shinees Minho was more hype than anything else. The flashy drama starts the first half hour off with a shirtless Minho to draw fans of his and watchers in. The show follows four friends in the fashion industry and the struggles they go through with work and love
The show had an overall western feel to it compared to most Kdramas. The way it was shot and color corrected was very similar to American television compared to a typical Korean drama. Since the drama is only 8 episodes it was hard to feel connected to the main couple, and with the addition of so many love interests for the female lead it was a bit rushed.
I have always had a strong curiosity and interest in the fashion industry, so while some scenes felt realistic of the typical issues and drama others felt extremely idealistic. The ending included. The last two episodes felt rushed and a little too perfect. As if everything was wrapped in a bow to give each character what they wanted.
Overall I’d rate this drama a 6/10. I wish that Minho had the chance to act in a more complex drama, but since it’s his first one maybe he will soon.
The Glory is an 8 episode drama on Netflix starring the amazing Song Hye Kyo. I loved her in encounter, descendants of the sun and that winter wind blows. I wasn’t planning on watching this drama but I heard it’s very different from her other dramas that I wanted to check it out. Her character is much darker than her other characters and I think she did an amazing job!
This psychological thriller filled with revenge was really interesting. There were many times though that showed burns and cuts which I didn’t enjoy so I skipped those. The overall plot of how the main character developed and executed her revenge plan was really intricate and well done. The way they blended and intertwined all of the characters lives, scandals and relationships was written seamlessly.
The ending leaves us on a dramatic cliffhanger where all characters masks have been removed and their secrets revealed. The audience is left with their imagination running at what is to come next in the main characters plans for revenge.
I kept seeing a lot of clips from Love to Hate You on tiktok and it made me want to see how it is. This short ten episode drama is currently on Netflix. I’m new to most of the actors on the staff, but I thought they all did a good job. The drama itself felt like a fairly typical fake dating drama, but it started a bit slow for me. I was surprised that they started the fake dating so far into the series, but overall it was a cute drama.
I liked the aspect of her being a fan of tint doubles and stunt work, but the description of the drama made me think that that was her full time job when in reality she’s a successful lawyer. I think it would have been more interesting of a plot line if she was an up and coming stunt double who didn’t like the actor but ended up being in a fake relationship with him.
My favorite relationship was actually the one the main character had with the older female actress that hired her is my favorite. Their friendship is so funny to me and I love how they joke and take care of each other.
I’ve only heard amazing things about Crash Course in Romance so I was so excited to watch this. The main actress Jeon Do Yeon is a legend and I’m glad to see her in a new drama. I’ve seen Jung Kyung Ho in Crash Landing on You and Beating Again so I’m excited to see him in this too. I was so excited to see Roh Yoon Seo after seeing her do well in Our Blues, I hope to see her in more dramas moving forward
I like how in the first episode they intertwined the two main characters in the first five minutes by having the male lead appear in posters and billboards around the female lead. I think the fact it’s also about Korean academy culture is so interesting because it’s so intense, expensive and competitive.
There were so many aspects of this drama that I liked, it had romance of all ages, a little thriller drama and also so many moments that had me laughing out loud. I thought all of the actors did an amazing job making it sweet/romantic and hilarious. The romance was very naturally built up slowly, it wasn’t like a big jump from enemies to lovers.
